What is the best LCD 50+ inch television to get for around $1500?
We are looking to spend approximately $1500 on a new LCD television. Preferably, we would like to have a 52″ with 1080p and a high contrast ratio. Any suggestions for specific television brands, models and places to purchase will be much appreciated.
Thank you

At 52″, you should also look REALLY hard at 120Hz or 240Hz technology. The motion blur problem inherent to LCD technology may well become noticeable for you at that size. I would want at least some help to mask the issue.
But at 52″, your options might be a bit limited with that budget, but with a good sale its doable. There are some decent sales going on right now at Best Buy. Also they will price match if you find a cheaper price elsewhere.
Right now at Best Buy,
52″
Sharp Aquos LC52D85U on sale for $1,300 (reg $1,700)
Sony KDL-52V5100 on sale for $1,800 (reg $2,200)
Samsung LN52B630 on sale for $1,800 (reg $2,200)
As you can see, 2 of those are already out of your listed budget. Most 1080p 120Hz sets at that size are actually going to push and break $2,000. But I think one of those might serve you well, and are at least reasonably close to the budget.
Otherwise consider dropping down a size to 46″ to get 1080p and 120Hz within your budget.
46″
Sony KDL-46Z5100 – $1,600 on sale (reg $2,300)
Samsung LN46B640 – $1,400 on sale (reg $1,800)
Or you could go Plasma and get elite image quality. You could also easily find one in your size/budget range. Right now at Best Buy,
Panasonic TC-P50G10 50″ 1080p Plasma – $1,400 on sale
That is one of the strongest TVs on the market. The G and V series from Panasonic are amongst the best TVs period.
I agree with JF , at those sizes you can get a 2009 panasonic plasma 52 inch for a better deal and If you like contrast the best a LCD can do is maybe maybe 30 percent of what a plasma can do the new panasonics are 2 000 000:1 dynamic contrast also 600hz will mean no blurring during moving scenes, at 52 inches even with a 120hz or 240hz LCD you will have annoying blur and it will cost a arm and a leg. The burn in and refill crap about plasma is a myth today when you get a panasonic or other respected brand.
